SPRING 2004
League Articles Coming following week 4!!!
With so many new teams and new faces, it's been really difficult to keep up with the highlights of the games in order for me to report news. It will take me a little time to get it all correct, and lets face it, news is pointless if it's not accurate. So, for this week and probably next, their will be no articles. Instead we will report league happenings here until I feel comfortable reporting on the games again. Check back after week 4's games for articles, as after week 3, things begin to calm down and with rosters locked, it becomes easier to get to know who is who. Until then, keep checking this page out for league information. Starting with:
The All-Star Tournament
At the captain's meeting we reported to the captains that this season we would be putting together two inter-league all-star teams in order to bring back the tradition of playing an all-star game. We are happy to report to all you all-star die-hards that we have been invited to play in a weekend tournament in Bakersfield, CA at the end of June. This tournament is for league all-star teams and at this time they have 12 different leagues ready to go. We have accepted the invitation, and therefore we will no longer be doing the inter-league all-star game. Rather, we will be compiling one all-star team in the same way as we always have before to play in this tournament. Please note if you are interested in playing and you become eligible by being selected as an all-star, any practices scheduled will be mandatory. Further, travel expenses will be at the players expense. Selected all-stars will be given one opportunity to accept or decline going, if they decline, their spot will be filled by league official's vote, if an elected player accepts and then misses the practice, his spot will be forfeited and filled by somebody else. This is an All-Star tournament so commitment is important. We can't have 8 people show up in Bakersfield if we are expecting 15, the weekend could consist of up to 6 games. Good luck to anybody who cares about making the all-star team as this should be an exciting, fun tournament.
Moving on too:
The Will Franklin swap
If anyone hadn't noticed, Mr. Franklin has hung up his purple for red. EvilKenegro (his self-proclaimed title) joined forces with Scores after his week one debut with The Regulators. Will made an impressive debut with his new team, and hopefully has found a new place to call home. His jersey closet must be looking very colorful by now - this being the 8th CCFFL team he has played for in eleven seasons, wow, that's one for the records page. Okay, all kidding aside, we wish Will the best of luck with Scores, and after that sweet catch he made in last week's game think maybe this will be the right fit for him, I guess only time will tell. Just for the record in case anyone is wondering or cares, this coming week is the last week you can pick up players, as after week 3 rosters are closed! The only exception to adding players after week 3 is to the Gators who have a bye week in week 3 and therefore have until week 4.
And :
The New Refs
I must report that I am very happy with the new referee crew we have officiating this season. I would like to remind all of the players that the rules have not changed, rather we have refs who are not putting up with anything. Please note that though they may seem a little strict, they are calling it the way it is supposed to be called. Please keep in mind that only captains may address the referees. Also, please remember that you can be ejected from the game for arguing with a referee, being belligerent, tackling, pushing out of bounds, or any un-sportsmanlike conduct. Please also note that their is no longer a board, therefore ejections are at the ref's discretion and the league will not intervene and overrule a ref's decision to eject a player. Referees can use their discretion to eject for future weeks as well. League Directors also have the discretion to eject or suspend anytime they witness a violation, and referees will back the leagues decision in these matters.
Finally,
Please I am begging you, don't make me bring back the fines. The flags need BELTED and hung up on the rack after your games. Also, trash on your sideline needs thrown away after your game. Due to problems with these issues, we will be patrolling the sidelines after the games again. If we continue to have problems, we will bring back the fines. Another important note regarding game times. We need to make a more serious effort to get our games started and over on time. From now on games will not be stopped for any reason, hence if you are on the WRONG side when the game starts, the kickoff will happen while you are changing, and the team that is misplaced will be the one that is penalized for delay of game. If players are caught on the field that have not officially registered, i.e. signed waiver and payed fees, the team sneaking players on the field is subject to an automatic forfeit. You all know who you have paid for and who has signed up, please respect the league and do not sneak players on the field, this is a liability for the league and if you are caught we will not hesitate to forfeit your game. Players with pockets will have to leave the game immediately, the games will no longer stop to accommodate people who have not read the rules.
That's it for now, we will see you Saturday on the field. Good luck to all of the teams.
Next Two Weeks, Games are at Fritsch Elementary School
Please remember that for the next two weeks (April 17th and April 24th) the games will be played at Fritsch School. If you are a former player, Fritsch is the school where we played at in the past. For all new players here are dirctions to the school:
From Reno when you get into Carson head down Carson Street until you get to the light at Juicy's Hamburgers. At the light make a right on Winnie Lane. Head down Winnie Lane until you get to Mountain Street. Make a Left on Mountain Street. Head down Mountain to Bath St. Make a left on Bath St. and you are there! Park in the parking lot of the school on Bath St. DO NOT PARK IN THE CHURCH PARKING LOT OFF OF MOUNTAIN STREET. Anybody who parks in the church lot will have to move there car.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Animals are NOT allowed at either of the parks where we play. Some people have brought their dogs out to Mills and we have not enforced it like we should have. We do not want to lose our field, please leave your dogs at home as they are not allowed in the park and we do have to crack down on this. They are strictly prohibited at Fritsch, please do not bring them as we will stop any game where a player has brought a dog and it wont resume until the dog is gone.
ALL-STARS
All-star game will be played in Bakersfield, CA June 26 and 27. This is a weekend tournament against many other league all-star teams. If you have all-star potential and think you will make the team, please note this weekend on your calendar. We will need a definite yes or no as to if you are going immediately after the team is announced. The rooms in Bakersfield that are being held for us are $85.00 a night, you will be responsible for your travel and your room charge. Hopefully people can share rooms to cut costs.
