Fall 2009
Fall 2009 - Opening Day
Spartans Vs. Violators
The Spartans and the Violators opened up the Fall 2009 season, and Doz Spartans pulled off an opening day shut out victory. Spartans Quarterback Jeff Day completed 75% of his passes for 193 yards and 4 touchdowns. Day mixed it up amongst his many targets hitting receivers: Jacob Nordman 5 times for 79 yards and 3 TDS, Mike Fuller 4 times for 50 yards, Scott Witter 3 times for 38 yards and Richie Norgrove 1 time for 18 yards and a TD. Day also rushed in a 27 yard TD. Although the Spartans kept the Violators out of the end zone, Violator receiver, Tilor Smith, made the catch of the day with a 38 yard reception from QB, Alfredo Archiga. But Smith's awesome catch was all the Violators were able to accomplish offensively as the Spartans' defense tortured Archiga throughout the game picking him off 5 times. Cornerback Manny Jacquez intercepted the Violator QB twice, while Safety Calvin Wright earned defensive player of the week with 4 tackles and a pick. Nick Medina and Cornelious Johnson also each picked off Arechiga once. The Spartans opened up the season with a 40-0 victory.
Feds Vs. Beaver Warriors
The Feds and the Beaver Warriors closed out the opening day action. The Beaver Warriors took first possession and got off to a slow start turning possession over to the Feds quickly and giving them a short field. Feds quarterback Shawn Hudson completed his second pass of the game to new Fed receiver Justin Gaddy for a 19 yard score. The Feds jumped into a 14 point lead when on their second offensive series runningback Jason Plaut rushed in a 10 yard touchdown. Following the Feds 2 quick TDS, Beaver Warriors quarterback Travis Wood scored a TD for his team when he hooked up with Chris Whitaker on a 26 yard touchdown reception. But the Feds answered the TD with another of their own when Hudson threw the first of 3 TD passes to offensive player of the week Paul Harting. Harting caught 3 passes in the game for a total of 76 yards and 3 touchdowns, Harting also converted 4 of the Feds 5 conversion points in the game. Beaver Warriors QB, Wood, completed a second TD in the game to receiver Chris McKinnish to take his team into the half time break down only 20-12, but the second half was all Feds as Hudson completed 3 more TDS and the Feds defense stopped the Warriors from anymore. Hudson had a huge day completing 75% of his passes for 357 yards and 5 touchdowns. In addition to Harting's 3 TDS and Gaddy's 1, Hudson completed a 32 yard touchdown to receiver Emil Lovec. Lovec finished the game with 6 receptions for 156 yards. Harting led the Feds defense with 5 tackles, but the pick of the day went to Feds cornerback Steven Novello. The Feds went on to beat the Beaver Warriors 41-12.
A couple interesting opening day moments for the CCFFL blooper reel that you may have missed:
Violator kick return moment when the Spartan's kicked off to the Violators after scoring a TD and then scored another one quickly when the Violators all stood frozen and stared down a live ball which Spartans runningback Lee Morehead simply picked up and took into the endzone.
Feds Safety Shawn Hudson deflected Beaver Warrior QB Travis Wood's pass with his head, the ball bounced off Hudson's head straight into the hands of cornerback Emil Lovec. Lovec was credited with the interception.
Fall 2009 Week 2
Beaver Warriors Vs. Spartans
The Spartans and the Beaver Warriors opened up the day and it started out close and stayed that way until the Spartans pulled away at the end. Spartans QB, Jeff Day completed the first touchdown in the game to Scott Witter. Witter went 26 yards for the score. The Beaver Warriors quickly tied the score at 7 all when QB Travis Wood found Matt Watty open for a 20 yard TD. Day rushed in the Spartans second score from 28 yards out and converted to bring the score up to 14-7, but the Beaver Warriors went into the half time break only 1 point behind as Wood hit receiver Cory Whitaker on a 47 yard bomb for 6 more. After the break, the Spartans defense tormented the Beaver Warriors causing 3 turnovers. Safety Calvin Wright caused 2 with one pick and one fumble recovery. Spartan Adam Shembri also recovered a Beaver Warriors fumble. Quarterback Jeff Day earned offensive player of the week completing 11 of 17 passes for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushing for 53 yards and a TD. Day hit receiver Jacob Nordman for an 11 yard touchdown towards the end of the game to move the Spartans up to a 21-13 lead. The Beaver Warriors offense was shut down in the second half, and Day put the nail in the coffin at the end of the game finding Witter open again for a 37 yard score followed by a 3 point conversion. The Spartans ended week 2 with a 2 and 0 record beating the Beaver Warriors 30-13.
Feds Vs. Violators
The Feds and the Violators met up for game 2 of week 2 and once again the Violators were shut out. The Spring 2009 Championship Game Runner-Ups are off to a slow start this season and couldn't get anything offensively going against the Feds as QB, Jairo Obregon, completed only 9 of 21 passes in the game. The Feds defense made it difficult for the Violators to move the ball as cornerback Stephen Novello earned defensive player of the week with 7 tackles and returning from a long hiatus cornerback Tony Rosales had 4 tackles and 2 sacks. It looked like a retro Feds team as also returning to the Feds roster was Gary Noah who posted 3 tackles in the game. Linebacker Shawn Hudson Jr. caused the game's only turnover with an interception. Junior also had 2 tackles and a deflection in the game. The Feds offense was a bit sluggish, but good enough to get the job done. QB Shawn Hudson Sr. completed 15 passes for 240 yards and 3 TDS. Receiver Stephen Novello caught 4 passes for 98 yards and a TD. Emil Lovec was 4 for 45 and a TD, and Tony Rosales also got in on the touchdown action with 2 catches for 39 yards and a TD. The Feds ended week 2 with a 2 and 0 record and sent the Violators home pondering another shut out and an 0 and 2 start. The final score was 18-0 Feds. Honorable mention goes to Feds runningback/defensive end Jason Plaut for being amazing!!!
Fall 2009 Week 3
Violators Vs. Beaver Warriors
With both teams going in with 0 wins and 2 losses it was a given that somebody was going home a winner in week 3's opener. The Beaver Warriors and the Violators took the field to kick off the day and the Beaver Warriors explosive offense was too much for the Violators to handle. Beaver Warrior QB Travis Wood completed 72% of his passes for 326 yards and 5 touchdowns. Wood found offensive player of the week Cory Whitaker open on 6 receptions for 173 yards and 4 touchdowns. Whitaker scored the first 2 and the last 2 Beaver Warrior scores in the game, and Matt Watty scored a TD in the middle on a 38 yard TD pass from Wood. The Violators trailed for most of the game but made it interesting at the end following a kick return for touchdown by B.J. Williams which put them back in the game. Violator QB Jairo Obregon brought his team even closer when he hit Tilor Smith on a 62 yard bomb for 6. But the Beaver Warriors quickly answered to retake a 2 touchdown and 3 conversion point lead. The Violators weren't finished and did move in closer right at the end of the game on a TD pass from Obregon to Tyrell Thomas, but it wouldn't be enough as the Beaver Warriors celebrated there first Victory of the season with a 33-24 final. Beaver Warrior Derek Detweiler led the defense with 2 tackles and an interception returned for 28 yards.
Feds Vs. Spartans
Game 2 was equally interesting with both the Feds and the Spartans going in with 2 wins and 0 losses. It was inevitable that someone would stay undefeated and the other would see their winning streak end. As expected it was a physical match both intense and a bit mouthy. In the end, it was the Feds who claimed the win beating the Spartans 24-15. Feds QB Shawn Hudson threw the first TD in the game to receive Paul Harting. Harting's touchdown reception was for 52 yards to get the Feds off to a good start. The Feds scored again and held a 12-0 lead when Hudson aired it out to receiver Stephen Novello for a 42 yard score. But the Spartans were not going into the half time break shut out as Spartan QB Jeff Day drove the ball down field and hit Jacob Nordman in the endzone on a 17 yard pass. The Spartans were unable to convert and went into the half time break down 12-6. After the break, the two defenses battled back and forth with both Quarterbacks being picked off 3 times each in the game. Spartan Safety Calvin Wright picked off Hudson twice and Jason Moran picked him off once. Spartan Manny Jacquez also caused a turnover picking off Feds runningback Jason Plaut. Plaut's pass was a 40-yard beauty down field intended for receiver Emil Lovec, but Jacquez stole the glory when he nabbed the ball. The turnovers didn't do the Feds much harm as their defense was able to reciprocate as father and son team Shawn and Shawn Hudson each picked off Day once and Stephen Novello earned defensive player of the week for the second time with a pick, 6 tackles, and a deflection. The Feds scored two more times in the second half but neither time in the air as Jason Plaut rushed in a 28 yard score and Shawn Hudson rushed one in from 8 yards back. The Spartans were able to score again as the clock ran out when Day hit receiver Richie Norgrove on a 27 yard TD reception and followed it up with a 3 yard conversion. But the Feds remained the undefeated team after posting the 24-15 win.
Fall 2009 Week 4
The Violators and The Spartans took the field for game 1 of week 4 and it was a close one to the end. The Violators would put the first 6 on the scoreboard when QB Jairo Obregon hit Tilor Smith on a 44 yard touchdown pass. Spartan QB Jeff Day scored the first Spartan TD on a 27 yard pass to Richie Norgrove. Day would rush in the 1 point conversion and it would be the point that would decide the game. Day and Norgrove met for a second score on an 81 yard bomb to take a 13-6 lead, but the Violators quickly responded with a 70 yard touchdown bomb of there own from Obregon to Ryan Benson. The Violators failed to convert again and were down 13-12. Day rushed in a 1 yard score set up after a 53 yard pass to receiver Scott Witter. The Violators at the end of the game scored again when Obregon hit Les Reddick on a 21 yard TD pass which left the Violators down by 1 point. The Violators opted to go for the win instead of a tie and attempted a 2 point conversion. The Spartan defense stopped it cold and the Spartans took the 19-18 victory.
The Beaver Warriors and the Feds met for game 2 of week 4 and it was a disappointing loss for the previously unbeaten Feds. The game was close in the beginning, but all Beaver Warriors in the end. Beaver Warrior QB Travis Wood earned offensive player of the week throwing for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns. Wood found league leading receiver Cory Whitaker open for 2 TDS and 89 yards and receiver Chris McKinnish for 2 TDS and 89 yards as well. Beaver Warrior Ryan Sarkinson scored a 5th touchdown for the team rushing in a 17 yard score. Beaver Warriors' Whitaker and Brad Wilson each picked off Feds QB Shawn Hudson once and the Beaver Warriors offense capitalized on both turnovers. The score was tied 14-14 at half time, but after the break, the Feds were only able to score once while the Beaver Warriors went on to score 3 times and win the game 33-20.
Fall 2009 Week 5
The Spartans and the Beaver Warriors kicked off week 5 of the Fall season. Spartans quarterback Jeff Day opened up with a 76 yard touchdown thrown to tight end Mo Otouai who went 60 yards and then Otuafi handed the ball off to runningback Lee Morehead who took it the rest of the way into the endzone. The Spartans scored a second TD and took a 14 point lead when Day hit receiver Jacob Nordman on a 17 yard touchdown pass. The Beaver Warriors got off to a sluggish start, but quarterback Travis Wood found league leading receiver Cory Whitaker open for 2 consecutive TD's and brought them into the half time break down by only 2 conversion points at 14-12. Whitaker finished the game with 147 yards and 3 touchdowns. After the break, Day marched his team down field easily and ended the drive with an 11 yard rushing TD followed by another 2 point conversion to up the Spartan lead to 22-12. The Beaver Warriors came back in the game when Wood hit Matt Watty for a 49 yard score, but the Beaver Warriors failed to convert again and were down 22-18 after both teams had each scored 3 times. Spartans QB Day was not happy with only a 4 point lead and found receiver Richie Norgrove open for a 20 yard touchdown pass to take the lead up to 28-18. As time ticked away, the Beaver Warriors drove down the field and made it interesting when they scored a fourth time, but the team was still down by 4 points and an unsuccessful onside kick attempt would deny them the opportunity to try and make up the deficit. The Spartans won the football game 28-24.
The Feds and the Violators closed out the first half of the Fall Season and the Violators hoped to end week 5 with a first win, but the Feds after suffering their first loss to the Beaver Warriors in week 4, had no intentions of feeling the agony of defeat two weeks in a row. The Feds scored quickly when QB Shawn Hudson hit Stephen Novello on an 84 yard touchdown pass. A successful conversion attempt started the Feds off to a 7-0 good start, but the Violators quickly answered with a 31 yard touchdown from QB Jairo Obregon to receiver B.J. Williams which tied the scored at 7 all. Hudson and Novello hooked up again for another touchdown bomb, this time Novello went 68 yards for the score. The two teams were tied 13 all at half time as Obregon answered again on a 40 yard TD to Ryan Benson. The two teams stayed evenly matched in the first half with both QB's being picked off 3 times and the score tied, but after the half it was all Feds. Hudson finished the game earning offensive player of the week honors throwing for 312 yards and 4 TDs and rushing for 48 yards. Hudson hit Feds runningback Jason Plaut for a 52 yard score and receiver Brian Fludd for a 25 yard score in the second half. Jason Plaut and Shawn Hudson Jr. led the Feds defense with Plaut posting 5 tackles, 2 sacks and recovering a fumble and Junior earing defensive player of the week with 4 tackles, 1 deflection, and an interception returned for 37 yards. The Feds went on to beat the Violators 27-13.
Fall 2009 Week 6
The Feds and The Spartans opened up week 6 and the Feds may as well have stayed home as it was all Spartans. Spartan QB Jeff Day completed 20 of 29 passes for 286 yards and 5 touchdowns. Day also rushed in a TD to have a hand on all 6 Spartan scores. But it wasn't only the Spartan offense that was on fire as defensively the team caused 3 turnovers with cornerback Richie Norgrove picking off Feds QB Shawn Hudson twice and cornerback Manny Jacquez picking Hudson off once. Hudson threw the ball 22 times in the game and the Spartans defense held the QB to only 6 completions for 86 yards. Earning offensive player of the week was Spartan Wide-Receiver Jacob Nordman who was 9 catches for 156 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tight end Mo Otuafi and receiver Scott Witter also each caught touchdown receptions. The Spartans bumped the Feds out of the first space seed and moved themselves comfortably in to it with the 41-0 shut out win.
The Violators and the Beaver Warriors took the field for game 2 and like game 1 it was evident early who the winner would be. Although the Feds maybe should have stayed home, the Beaver Warriors on the other hand practically did stay home as the normally stocked team was in attendance with only 9 players and of the missing in action was the league's leading receiver and his QB. The Violators had a full team in attendance and were hoping to put there first win up this season. The Violators did just that and stomped on there opponents. Violator QB Jairo Obregon completed 12 of 19 passes for 287 yards and 4 touchdowns. Obregon also rushed in a 22 yard TD in the game. Obregon found receiver Les Reddick for 2 TD receptions. Obregon also completed touchdown passes to B.J. Williams, Ryan Benson, and Tilor Smith. Tilor Smith was 4 receptions for 125 yards and the 1 TD. Although the Beaver Warriors were able to score 2 TDS in the game, the Violator offense was on fire and Tilor Smith defensively tormented the Beaver Warriors earning defensive player of the week with 4 tackles and 3 INTS, 1 rushed back for a score. The Violators knocked the monkey off there back with a week 6 first win of the season over the Beaver Warriors. The final score was Violators 47, Beaver Warriors 12.
Fall 2009 Week 7
The Violators showed up short handed in week 7 making them eligible to pick up some help for there game against the Spartans. The Violators recruited Feds QB, Shawn Hudson and Beaver Warrior Guard Mike Moore and they proved to be good pick ups for the short-handed team as the Violators went on to beat the Spartans 18-7. Although the Violators had some offensive help, there defense was all Violators and they held the Spartans to only one score in the first half and none in the second. Violator Marco Urbina led the defense with a tackle, a deflection and an interception returned 70 yards for a TD. Corners Tyrell Thomas and Jairo Obregon had big games with Thomas grabbing 5 tackles and Obregon getting 4 tackles and a sack. Les Reddick also had an interception in the game against Spartan QB Jeff Day. Although the Spartans were not quite on there game, QB Jeff Day and receiver Jacob Nordman were able to hook up 7 times for 84 yards. But the Violator offense was on fire as Hudson completed 11 of 18 passes for 267 yards and 2 TDs. Hudson hooked up nicely with Marcos Martinez 4 times for 150 yards including a 64 yard TD. Tilor Smith caught the other Violator TD and was 3 catches for 79 yards in the game. Smith suffered a shoulder injury and had to leave the game early. It was later learned that Smith dislocated his shoulder and will be out for a couple games. The win was the Violators second this season as they posted there first win last week against the Beaver Warriors.
The Feds met the Beaver Warriors for game 2 of week 7. Feds cornerback Brian Fludd had the task of trying to stop league leading receiver Cory Whitaker and Fludd earned defensive player of the week as he held Whitaker to a rare 3 catches for only 16 yards. Fludd had 4 tackles in the game and an interception. The Feds scored on there opening drive when runningback Jason Plaut rushed in a twenty yard score. The Beaver Warriors quickly answered the score when QB Travis Wood hit Matt Watty for a 55 yard score. With the two quick scores it looked like it was going to be a close one but the Feds continued to put points on the board while the Beaver Warriors were stopped short of scoring on several drives. Receiver Emil Lovec scored the Feds second TD on a 76 yard bomb from Hudson. Lovec only caught one other ball in the game but it was another TD for 68 yards. Feds receiver Paul Tursteege who was playing in his final game of the season before leaving for the Navy went out on a great note scoring 2 TDS in the game and racking up 99 yards. Brian Fludd caught the Feds final TD on a 30 yard touchdown reception at the end of the game. Beaver Warrior Chris McKinnish was 5 receptions for 118 yards and a TD. McKinnish suffered a season ending injury going for a catch in the game when he came down wrong and broke his leg. Hudson finished the game completing 13 of 17 passes for 406 yards and 5 TDS. Beaver Warrior QB, Travis Wood was 16 of 29 passes for 287 yards and 2 TDS. Although Wood had big numbers, the QB suffered a rare 4 turnovers in the game. In addition to Fludd, Jason Plaut, Shawn Hudson and Rory Sullivan each had a pick in the game. Sullivan rushed his back 68 yards for a score and the Feds beat the Beaver Warriors 46-14.

And finally, this years Most Valuable player was a difficult choice as there were so many candidates and stand out players. From three outstanding quarterbacks, Jeff Day, Shawn Hudson and Travis Wood who all led there offenses to big numbers and several touchdowns, Day threw 26 touchdowns and rushed in 7 while Hudson threw for 34 TDS and even rushed in a rare 1. Then there was wide receiver Cory Whitaker leading the league in receptions with 51 catches for 904 yards and 13 touchdowns, and we cant forget the runningbacks Jason Plaut from the Feds and Lee Morehead of the Spartans both backs scored 6 touchdowns between rushing and receiving and Morehead racked up 845 yards while Plaut was just behind him with 740. And we cant forget the defense with Plaut also standing out there leading the league in sacks with 16. The Spartans were lucky to have cornerbacks Manuel Jacquez and Richie Norgrove wreaking havoc with picks with Jacquez leading the league with 7 INT's and Norgrove just behind him with 6. And of course we can't forget to note the many contributors who might not have racked up big numbers but without them there teams would not be the same, unfortunately there are too many to mention!!! But this season's most valuable player was a force both offensively and defensively finishing 3rd in receiving with 540 yards and 7 touchdowns, 1st in tackles, 1st in deflections, and 6th in interceptions with 3:
