Fall 2007

one-hundred-thirty first edition, September 15, 2007

It was a great opening day for the Fall 2007 season, the weather was perfect as the league welcomed 3 new teams and said hello to 6 returning teams who all had revamped rosters and were ready to go.  Before we begin the highlights, we must put out some important reminders that will be STRICTLY enforced beginning Week 2.  We ask that anybody reading the website this week share the information below with their teammates  and team captain before next Saturday's games as any violations of the policies below will be enforced.  We understand that some of these policies may seem excessive, however we have a good league for a reason and wish to keep it that way.

1.  JERSEYS & NUMBERS -  Please remember that per the CCFFL rulebook, jerseys are MANDATORY.  Although we are allowing matching T-Shirts as jerseys this season, it is important that the T-Shirts match.  Visible numbers are also mandatory!!!  Any player that is not wearing a matching colored jersey or shirt will not be able to play.  We must be able to view the numbers clearly on the shirts.  Numbers must be clearly visible to the sideline, or the player will not be able to play.  Captains, if you are adding new players, we suggest that you bring t-shirts with numbers printed on them to the game for your new players to wear.  If your team is wearing T-Shirts, please have them numbered, if you are using a marker to draw the numbers, please draw them big and dark so that they are visible to the sideline.  Please make sure your shirts are properly numbered before next week's games.  Teams with existing jerseys that have added new players, you may outfit your new players with t-shirts as long as the shirts are the SAME color as your jerseys, and as long as they also have visible numbers.  No exceptions beginning Week 2.

2.  SIDELINE TRASH AND FLAGS - Please remember that team captains will be fined for not cleaning up their sideline after the game.  It is the captain's responsibility to make sure that his team and his team's fans trash is picked up and thrown away.  Flags are to be gathered up and belted and either returned to the league sideline, or given to the next team, they are not to be taken off and just left on the ground and scattered.  Team captains will be fined $25.00 for not turning the flags in properly and/or leaving their sideline trash.  In addition to fines, captains can also be suspended from a game.  Fines have to be paid before a team can play.

3.  NO POCKETS or BELT LOOPS, shorts and sweats with pockets or belt loops are not allowed.  Players with pockets will be kicked off the field.  The league officials will not hold the game waiting for these players to change, even if it is multiple players.  Taped up pockets are not allowed.  If you have shorts with pockets, the only way they are allowed is if they are sewn up or have a zipper.  No taped up or velcro pockets are allowed.

Fall 2007 Opening Day News

The Blue Chips and The Violators opened up the Fall 2007 season.  The Blue Chips were the first team in the Fall 2007 season to score a touchdown when Quarterback, Bryan Tilton, hit receiver Adam Pruitt for a 78 yard score.  The Blue Chips converted and started off their season with an 8-0 lead.  Tilton upped the team's lead to 14 when he scored the second touchdown in the game on a 9 yard run.  The Violators scored their first Fall 07 touchdown when Quarterback, Alfredo Arechiga found receiver Tilor Smith open for a 49 yard touchdown pass.  The score was 14-6 when  Blue Chip Adam Pruitt scored his second TD of the game on another 78 yard pass from Tilton.  Pruitt and Tilton would not only open their season with the first score, but also close out the game with the final touchdown, this time on a quick 4 yard pass into the endzone.  Pruitt caught 3 passes in the game for 160 yards and they were all TDS.  Tilton was 13 of 23 for 304 yards and 3 TDS in the game.  Defensively, Blue Chip Logan Lord caused the most damage sacking the Violator's QB 5 times and grabbing 2 tackles.  Blue Chips' Chris Palmer and Ali Jones each caused turnovers by catching an INT in the game.  Violator's Jaime Cosio and Tilor Smith both had a great game defensively as well with Cosio posting 2 tackles and 2 deflections and Tilor Smith getting a tackle, a deflection, and an INT, but it wasn't enough to stop the Blue Chips from taking home an opening day victory with a 26-6 final score.

The Thundercats opened up their season facing an all new opponent, The Fighting Cocks.  The first score of the game came defensively from the Thundercats as Stephen Novello  rushed an INT back 51 yards for a TD.  Neither team posted big numbers offensively, but the Thundercat defense caused 3 turnovers in the game by interception.  Along with Novello, Gary Sawyer picked off Fighting Cocks quarterback, Brandon Swindlehurst twice.  Thundercats' QB, Jeremy Davidson completed a pass to Blake Stephenson for 19 yards and a TD and upped the score to 12-0.  Defensive highlights for the Fighting Cocks included a turnover caused by cornerback Jaime Gonzalez who caught an INT and also posted a tackle and a deflection in the game, while Brandon Swindlehurst grabbed 4 tackles.  But the Thundercats would go on to score a 3rd and final touchdown when Gary Sawyer rushed into the endzone 26 yards for the teams final score.  The Thundercats opened the season with an 18-0 shut out victory over the CCFFL's newest team, The Fighting Cocks.

Game 3 was the traditional opening day rematch of the previous season's Championship Game teams.   The Spring 2007 Champions, The Feds, faced off with X Factor again to open up the new season.  Both teams had some new faces and were missing some old, but the Feds' newest members made their presence known early.  The Feds took an early lead as quarterback Shawn Hudson got to know his new receiver, Eddie Wilson as the 2 hooked up for a 40 yard opening drive touchdown.  The Feds converted a 2 pointer and started their season off with an 8 point lead.  New Fed, Mike McDowell, upped the Feds' lead to 16 when he caught an INT on X Factor's opening drive and returned it 28 yards for another Feds' score.  X Factor drove their way back into the game when quarterback Lee Robertson hit one of his new receivers, Nick Lonnegran, for a 67 yard touchdown score.  X Factor also converted a 2 pointer and the score now sat at 16-8.  Feds QB Shawn Hudson found receiver Emil Lovec open for the teams third touchdown, and took the team into the half time break with a 22-8 lead.  The Feds defense was led by McDowell who in addition to his INT for TD, had a second INT, and 7 tackles.  After the half, the Feds kept the air assault going when Hudson found Wilson again for a 52 yard TD.  Wilson finished the game with 179 yards.  Robertson would bring his team closer as he found Lonnegran again for another score, this time Lonnegran would rack up 59 more yards for the TD.  X Factor went on to convert 3 points and the score was now 28-17.  Late in the game, the Feds were not done as Hudson would find Lovec again for a 75 yard TD.  It was a big offense game for both teams as Hudson threw for a record 514 yards with big plays to his receivers all day, and Robertson had a 270 yard day throwing 146 yards to Nick Lonnegran.  The Feds opened the season with a 34-17 win.

2 new teams, The Plague and Doz Boyz, closed out opening day as they took the field for game 4.  Doz Boyz roster was full of some old familiar faces who have returned for another season, while The Plague was all new with the exception of 2.  Nobody knew what to expect, but in the end it was shown that the two new contenders were pretty evenly matched as the 12-6 final would indicate.  The Plague launched an air attack, while Doz Boyz found more success on the ground.  The first team to score was The Plague as quarterback Brandon Leach hit receiver Neil Stokely for a 32 yard touchdown.  Interceptions were a big factor in the game as The Plague's quarterback was picked off 3 times, and Doz Boyz QB's were picked of twice.  Leading the Plague's defense was Frankie Albert who had 2 INT's, a tackle, and a deflection.  Doz Boyz defense was led by Fernando Castro who had an INT, 2 tackles, a sack, and a deflection.  Carl McCallister and Reece Kizer caught the other 2 INTS for Doz Boyz.  The Plague went into the half leading 6-0, and after the half upped the lead to 12 on a touchdown pass from Leach to receiver, Greg Lexa.  Doz Boyz made their way to the scoreboard and were down by only a TD following a TD run from B.J. Williams.  Williams ended the game with 57 rushing yards and his teams only score.  Plague QB, Brandon Leach was 11 of 26 for 166 yards and 2 TDS.  Plague receiver Neil Stokely was 5-107 in the game.  The Plague won the battle of the new teams and wrapped up opening day with a 12-6 victory over Doz Boyz.

Week 2 Highlights

The Blue Chips and Doz Boyz took the field to open up week 2.  Doz Boyz started off the game with a quick 45 yard score on a pass from Quarterback, Dustin Lowe, to receiver, B.J. Williams.  The Blue Chips answered the score with one of their own, QB Bryan Tilton went deep to receiver Bryan Buckner for a 54 yard touchdown, followed by a 2 point conversion which gave the chips a 2 point lead.  But Lowe and Williams answered that with a 61 yard score to take back a 4 point lead for Doz Boyz.  The Doz Boyz lead didn't last long as Tilton and Buckner struck again, this time a 50 yard hook up for the score, the Blue Chips converted 2 and now they held a 4 point lead to take into the half.  After the half, Doz Boyz would reclaim the lead as receiver Carlos Mendoza caught a pass from Lowe and went 76 yards for the score.  Doz Boyz held on to their 4 point lead for quite some time as defensive players Richard Burchett and Derek Burton each had picks which gave possession back to their team.  But the Blue Chips defense led by Timmy Wholey and Ryan Marsh stopped Doz Boyz from capitalizing on their turnovers and held them at 18 points while the Chips went on to score 3 more times with only minutes left in the game.  Wholey had 2 tackles, a deflection and an INT returned for 28 yards, while Marsh had 2 tackles and 3 sacks.  Tilton would hit Buckner again for the score which would take the lead, and then Ali Jones for a 46 yard TD followed by a 49 yard touchdown bomb to Adam Pruitt.  The Blue Chips ended the game with a 34-18 victory over Doz Boyz.

The Feds met the Plague for game 2 of week 2, and The Plague opened up the game strong against the Spring 07 champs.  Plague cornerback Neil Stokely picked off quarterback Shawn Hudson on the opening pass in the game.  Stokely's turnover led to a Plague touchdown as Plague Quarteback, Brandon Leach hit receiver Greg Lexa for the score.  The Feds second drive ended more successfully as Hudson found receiver Emil Lovec open for a score and the game was now tied at 6.  The Feds would go into the half time break with a mere 2 point lead as Hudson hooked up with receiver Eddie Wilson for the teams second TD and followed it with a 2 point conversion.  Leach and Lexa met up again for a score but were unable to convert giving the Feds a 14-12 lead at the half.  After the break, the Plague took control back as Leach and Lexa would hook up again , this time for a 58 yard score.  The Feds answered with a long drive down field ending in an 8 yard score by Lovec, and followed by a 1 point conversion to give the Feds a 1 point lead.  With the score set at 21-20 Feds, Hudson upped his team's lead as he hit receiver Eddie Wilson in the endzone, an unsuccessful conversion attempt gave the Feds a 27-20 lead, but The Plague answered as Leach found receiver Neil Stokly open for an 18 yard touchdown.  The Plague was now down by 1 point and only minutes remained in the game, the team decided to go for a 2 point conversion to take the lead, rather than 1 point to tie.  But the Feds defense prevented the conversion effort, and the Feds regained possession and held a 1 point lead.  Rory Sullivan led the Feds defense with 2 tackles, a sack, and 3 deflections.  The Feds went for a final score rather than a kneel down, and Jason Plaut rushed 28 yards into the endzone to end the game with a 33-26 Feds win.

Like the Blue Chips and the Feds who had now opened the season at 2 and 0, The Thundercats hoped to do the same as they met the Guerillaz.  It was opening day for the Guerillaz as they had the week 1 bye, and they showed up with a full roster and ready to go.  But the Thundercats proved to be more ready as quarterback Jeremy Davidson ran receiver Matthew Sgambati down the field to open up the game with a score.  Davidson called Sgambati's number 3 times in a row which led to a 45 yard TD.  The Guerillaz were unable to answer, rather QB Mark Lobsinger returned possession to the Thundercats as he threw a pick to cornerback Gary Sawyer.  Sawyer would go on to catch a second INT in the game along with teammate Stephen Novello who would catch a pick and return it 32 yards.  Turnovers proved to be detrimental for the Guerillaz as the team was unable to get anything going offensively in the game and the Thundercats defense held them to zero points.  The Guerillaz had some defensive highlights with T.J. Plummer posting 5 tackles and a sack, and Justin Steepe had 6 tackles and 2 sacks.  But the Thundercats continued to find their way to the endzone as runningback Blake Stephens scored a rushing touchdown, and receiver B.J. Wilkerson scored a touchdown on a 27 yard pass from Davidson.  The Thundercats defense was led by Stephen Novello who in addition to his pick had 4 tackles and a sack.  The Thundercats joined the Blue Chips and The Feds at 2 and 0 as they beat the Guerillaz 18-0 in week 2.

X Factor met the Violators to close the week and both teams came into week 2 suffering from a week 1 loss.  Both team's Quarterbacks posted similar numbers, as X Factor QB Lee Robertson finished the game with 14 completions for 205 yards and 1 INT, while Violator QB Steve Handleton with a half back pass assist from #31, was 13 completions for 203 yards and 1 INT.  But despite the similar numbers, Robertson posted a crucial difference in his stats, his 205 yards led to 4 touchdowns.  X Factor opened up with a 38 yard touchdown from Robertson to receiver, Nick Lonnegran.  The Violators were unable to answer.  Robertson would go on to find Anthony Lonnegran for his team's second score, and then Nick again for a third leading to a 19-0 half time lead.  After the half, the Violators worked their way onto the scoreboard as Handleton hit receiver Matt Moore for an 18 yard score.  But X Factor kept coming as Robertson answered the Violator score by running one in, and then closed the game with a 51 yard touchdown bomb to Calvin Wright.  X Factor defensive highlights included 5 tackles and a sack from Calvin Wright, 2 tackles and 5 sacks by Edell Glover, and 4 tackles, a deflection, and a pick by Jason Moran.  The Violator defense caused two turnovers in the game with Matt Moore catching a pick and Ricardo Gutierrez recovering a fumble, but it wasn't enough to stop X Factor from taking home the 31-6 week 2 victory.

Week 4 Highlights

The Blue Chips and The Plague opened up week 4, and both teams were without their starting quarterbacks.  The Blue Chips got off to a quick start not needing a QB as Ryan Marsh returned the opening kick off for a score.  The Plague  tried to answer, but their QB was definitely missed as fill in QB Adam Quick put the ball up and it landed in the hands of Blue Chip Adam Pruitt who returned it 53 yards for the Chips second score.  The Blue Chips were up 14-0 when their fill in QB Christian Conte made his mark on the scoreboard.  Conte found receiver Abner Lopez open for a 55 yard score.  The Plague was down by 3 touchdowns when they finally found the scoreboard.  Plague defensive back Jason Moliono sacked Conte in the end zone causing a safety and giving his team 2 points.  The Plague switched QB's and with Randy Loff now filling in for the Plague's missing starter they drove down field and Loff found receiver Greg Lexa open for the score.    The Blue Chips defense was led by Logan Lord who caused 2 tackles, 2 deflections, and 2 Interceptions in the game.  Ryan Marsh had 4 sacks, and Adam Pruitt had 4 tackles.  Pruitt also went on to score two more touchdowns for the Blue Chips, one for 82 yards and one for 63.  Although Blue Chip backup quarterback Christian Conte completed only 4 passes in the game, they totaled 214 yards and 3 were touchdowns.  The Blue Chips won 32-8 and remain undefeated at 3 and 0.

Doz Boyz and The Thundercats took the field for game 2, and Doz Boyz was looking for a win coming in at 0 and 3.  Doz Boyz showed up with a new quarterback, former Scores QB, Eric Brown.  Brown was a welcome addition opening up the game with a successful drive down field ending in a touchdown run from runningback Mikel Williams.  Williams also lit up the field defensively with 2 tackles and 4 sacks, 1 of which was for a safety that gave Doz Boyz a quick 9 point lead.  The Thundercats were unable to get anything going offensively as Doz Boyz defense was all over.  Turnovers were detrimental for the Thundercats as Royal Tophia returned possession to Doz Boyz with a pick that led to another score as Eric Brown rushed 22 yards for a TD.  Doz Boyz cornerback Derek Burton stopped the Thundercats next drive with an interception that he returned 71 yards for a TD.  Burton would get another INT in the game, and a tackle.  Doz Boyz wide receiver and cornerback B.J. Williams had a huge game finishing with 3 catches for 116 yards and a TD, and defensively had 6 tackles and a deflection.  Thundercat cornerback Stephen Novello had 4 tackles and an INT, while Josh Weaver had 3 tackles and 3 sacks but it wasn't enough to stop Doz Boyz.  Eric Brown finished the game 6 of 10 for 173 yards and 1 passing touchdown, and led Doz Boyz to their season's first win.  The final score was Doz Boyz 29, Thundercats 0.

The Feds took on the Guerillaz for game 3, and the Feds hoped to continue their winning streak.  The Feds came out gunning early as QB Shawn Hudson opened up the game with a quick pass to receiver Emil Lovec, followed by a touchdown pass to receiver Eddie Wilson.  Hudson would go back and forth all day long between Lovec and Wilson as the two receivers finished the game with 5 catches each and only 1 receiving yard apart.  Wilson would rack up 157 yards and a TD, while Lovec finished with 158 yards and 3 TDS.  Defensively Lovec and Wilson had big numbers as well with Lovec grabbing 4 tackles and an INT, and Wilson getting 2 INTS, a deflection, and 5 tackles.  The Guerillaz tried hard to stop the Feds, but the Feds were having their way on the field.  Hudson completed 18 passes for 475 yards and 5 touchdowns.  The Feds scored a sixth touchdown with runningback Jason Plaut.  Plaut rushed 26 yards for a score.  The Feds completed 4 of 6 two point conversions as Hudson found receiver Paul Harting for all 4 successful scores.  Shawn Hudson Jr. made his receiving debut at tight end, and caught 3 of his dad's passes for 88 yards and his first ever CCFFL touchdown.  The Guerillaz avoided a shut out  late in the game when quarterback Mark Lobsinger hit tight end T.J. Plummer for a TD followed by a 3 point conversion to give the team 9 points.  The Feds went to 4 and 0 as they beat the Guerillaz 46-9.

The Violators were looking for their first win as they closed out week 4 against The Fighting Cocks who were also coming in winless.  Both teams were hungry for a win, but the Violators showed early on that they were hungrier as they were unstoppable both offensively and defensively.  The Fighting Cocks could not stop the Violators as their defense posted just a mere 11 tackles total in the game.  Violator runningback Marcos Martinez had a great day rushing.  Martinez scored 3 touchdowns on the ground and racked up 112  yards.  Quarterback Steve Handleton only threw the ball 6 times in the game, but completed 50% of his passes for 72 yards and a touchdown to receiver Tilor Smith.  Smith was a key reason his QB didn't get the ball very often as he scored 2 touchdowns from running back interceptions, Smith also grabbed 3 tackles and a third interception in the game.  Tilor Smith led the Violator defense with his 3 picks rushed back for 164 total yards and 2 TDs.  Marco Urbina also scored a defensive touchdown as he rushed an INT back 52 yards for the score.  The Violators posted 6 turnovers in the game, Rolando Arechiga got an INT, and Dustin Thompson recovered a fumble.  Despite the defensive attack, the Fighting Cocks were able to avoid a shut out as runningback Maurice Pelt scored a rushing  touchdown to put his team on the board.  The Violators got their first win this season and it was a big one as they ended the game with a 52-6 final score.

Week 5 Highlights

Game 1 of week 5 matched X Factor up with the Blue Chips.  X Factor came in with a record of 2 and 1, while the Blue Chips walked in undefeated with a 3 and 0 record.  Both teams had already had their bye weeks.  At half time it looked like X Factor had a chance to break the Blue Chips winning streak as the score was tied 8 all.  But after the half, the Blue Chips came alive, and X Factor fell apart.  The Blue Chips finished the game still undefeated with a 32-14 win.  Highlights in the game included a new league record passing percentage set by Blue Chip Quarterback Bryan Tilton.  Tilton was 13 of 14 for 172 yards and 3 TDS, giving him a 92.8% record breaking passing percentage.  Blue Chip tight end Logan Lord had a great game catching for 153 yards and 3 TDS.  Defensively Blue Chips cornerback Ali Jones finished the game with 6 tackles and an interception.  X Factor tight end and defensive end Edell Glover had all of the X Factor highlights leading the defense with 7 sacks and a tackle, and offensively rushing 63 yards for a TD.

Game 2 was the currently 1st place undefeated Feds Vs. the winless Fighting Cocks.  The Feds were on their game and there was nothing the Fighting Cocks could do to stop them as the Feds finished the game with a 68-0 shut out victory and go into their bye week with a 5 - 0 record.  Highlights in the game included 22 passing completions by Feds QB, Shawn Hudson for 428 yards and 8 touchdowns.  Fed receiver Eddie Wilson finished with 180 yards and 5 touchdowns, while receiver Paul Harting had 8 catches for 115 yards.  Feds runningback Jason Plaut rushed for 56 yards in the game and received 3 passes for 57 yards and a TD.  Tight end Mike Miller scored his first touchdown as a Fed with a 48 yard touchdown reception, and Shawn Hudson Jr. came in as the backup QB and threw his first CCFFL touchdown pass to receiver Wilson.  Hudson Jr. was 2 passes for 60 yards and a TD, followed by a successful 3 point conversion pass to Harting.  Defensively Harting and Stephen Novello each caused INTs, while defensive end Rory Sullivan led the Feds defense with 3 sacks, a deflection, and 2 turnovers by recovering fumbles.  The Fighting Cocks defensive highlight came from Jamie Gonzalez.  Gonzalez intercepted Hudson once, and had 2 tackles and a deflection in the game.

Perhaps the most exciting match up in week 5 was game 3's The Plague vs. The Violators.  Throughout the game the score went back and forth, but The Violators prevailed in the end and took home a 22-18 final score win.  Highlights in the game came from the Violators' defense as together they caused 4 turnovers.  Tilor Smith led the defense with an interception, 4 tackles, and a deflection.  Violator Claudio Martinez also had an interception and a tackle, and both Alfredo Arechiga, and Marcos Martinez each cause a turnover from recovering a fumble.  Martinez rushed his fumble recovery back for a TD.  Violators Jamie Cosio, and Marcos Martinez scored the 2 Violator offensive touchdowns.  It was the 4 conversion points scored by the Violators that separated the two teams and led to the Violator victory.  Plague highlights came from receiver Greg Lexa who scored 2 offensive touchdowns, and racked up 6 tackles and a sack defensively.  Matt Runge scored the third Plague TD with a 49 yard returned INT.

Doz Boyz and the Guerillaz closed out week 5 with a rush fest leading to a Doz Boyz victory.  Doz Boyz finished the game with only 77 passing yards, while the Guerillaz finished with a mere 65 passing yards.  Doz Boyz won the game with a 24-0 shut out win.  Highlights all came on the ground with Doz Boyz runningback Mikel Williams finishing with 182 rushing yards and a TD, and QB Eric Brown rushing in a TD and 73 yards in the game.  Brown and Williams also hooked up for 2 more scores on 2 TD passes to close out two long rushing drives.  Defensively Mikel Williams led Doz Boyz with 5 sacks, and cornerback Derek Burton had an INT and a tackle.  B.J. Williams also caused a change of possession back to his team with a fumble recovery, B.J. also snagged 2 tackles and a deflection.  The Guerillaz also caused 2 turnovers in the game with Justin Shine and Brandon Lamborn each picking off QB Brown once in the game.

Week 6 Highlights

Week 6 was kicked off by The Blue Chips and The Fighting Cocks.  It was another disappointing finish for the Fighting Cocks as the Blue Chips shut them out and remain undefeated at 5 and 0.  Highlights in the game came from Blue Chips, Bryan Buckner who caused 4 turnovers.  Buckner intercepted 3 balls of which he ran 1 back 70 yards for a TD, and a fumble recovery that Buckner also rushed back for a TD.  Logan Lord also led the Blue Chip's defense with 3 sacks and 4 tackles.  Offensively Blue Chip, Adam Pruitt, led the receiving field with 3 passes totaling 118 yards and a TD.  The Blue Chips easily won the game, finishing with a 52-0 final score.

Doz Boyz and The Violators met for game 2, and unlike game 1 this one came down to the final seconds.  It was 18-21 with just a minute left in the game and a 3 point conversion attempt that would have tied the game.  But the Violators were unable to convert, and Doz Boyz went home with the 21-18 victory.  Highlights in the game included 2 70+ yard runs into the endzone from Violator Marco Urbina.  But Urbina's 2 touchdowns weren't enough to win the game as Doz Boyz QB Eric Brown threw for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns, 1 each to receivers Reece Kwaugoe, Carl McCallister, and Richard Burchett, Brown followed each TD with a successful 1 point conversion throw.  Mikel Williams led Doz Boyz defense with 4 tackles and a sack.  It was a great game throughout, and Doz Boyz prevailed as they completed all 3 conversion attempts and held the Violators to 3 unsuccessful conversions, giving them a 3 point difference that would win the game.

The Guerillaz and The Plague met for game 3 and it appeared that the Plague had regrouped nicely after their week 5 referee controversy.  The Plague kept their cool and went on to beat the Guerillaz 28-6.  Highlights included 2 touchdowns each for receivers Neil Stokely and Greg Lexa.  Stokely finished the game catching 6 balls for 84 yards, while his quarterback, Brandon Leach, was 16 of 28 for 227 yards and 4 TDS.  Lexa and Leach each caused interceptions in the game as they both picked off Guerilla QB Mark Lobsinger once.  Lobsinger was kept to only 6 passes completed in the game, but reeled off 109 rushing yards and his teams only score.  The Plague bumped their way up .500 and a 3 and 3 record with the 28-6 win over the Guerillaz.

X Factor and the Thundercats closed out week 6 and it was another blow out to end the day.  X Factor racked up 59 points in the game and held the Thundercats to just 12.  Highlights in the game came from X Factor QB, Lee Robertson, and receiver, Nick Lonnegran.  Robertson and Lonnegran hooked up for 5 touchdowns.  Robertson threw 7 TDs in the game, 5 to Lonnegran and 1 each to Tight End, Pat Nelson, and runningback Paul Turstage.  Turstage also rushed in a touchdown.  Jason Moran led X Factor's defense causing 2 INTs, and getting 5 tackles and a deflection.  James Meyer and Sergio Godoy also caused turnovers with Meyers catching an INT, and Godoy recovering a fumble.  Blake Stephens and Dominic Schmidt scored the 2 Thundercat touchdowns as Stephens rushed one in and Schmidt caught a TD pass from quarterback Jeremy Thompson.  X Factor ended the game in third place with thier 59-12 win.

Week 8 Highlights

The Plague and The Fighting Cocks opened up week 8.  The Plague beat the still winless Fighting Cocks easily with a 38-12 final score.  The Plague put up big offensive numbers with Quarterback Brandon Leach completing 14 of 22 passes for 291 yards and 5 TDS.  Receiver Greg Lexa was 3 of 56 for 2 touchdowns, and receiver Neil Stokely led the Plague receivers with 94 yards and a TD.  Also scoring for the Plague was tight end Randy Loff and receiver Frankie Albert.  The Plague defense got in on the action as well with Marcus Beecher running back an Interception for 36 yards and a score.  Jason Moliono and Frankie Albert each picked off the Fighting Cocks QB as well.  Although the Fighting Cocks were short handed, they posted some highlights in the game of their own.  Cornerback William Hall picked off Leach in regular action, and stopped a conversion with a pick as well.  Fighting Cocks James Troxel and Maurice Pelt each scored touchdowns in the game.  But the Plague was too much for the Fighting Cocks to handle and they went home with the victory pushing them into the #4 seed.

The Feds and The Blue Chips met up for game 2 and after a disappointing week 7 loss, the Feds were anxiously awaiting the opportunity to hopefully take the undefeated Blue Chips down.  And that is exactly what they did with a 19-18 victory in the end.  Highlights in the game included a game opening 52 yard interception for touchdown for Blue Chips' linebacker Logan Lord.  Lord's score was quickly answered by the Feds on the ensuing drive as Feds' QB, Shawn Hudson, hit league leading receiver Eddie Wilson for a 62 yard TD, a 1 point conversion following Wilson's score was the key point to the Feds victory.  Feds receiver Emil Lovec upped the lead by ending the Feds next offensive drive with a 58 yard score.  Wilson finished with 98 yards in the game, while Lovec finished with 94.  The Blue Chips brought the game to a 13-12 score following Lovec's score as Bryan Buckner went 29 yards for a score.  But Feds QB Hudson upped the Feds lead with a rare rushing touchdown.  With the score 19-13 and time running down, Buckner scored again giving his team 18 points, but the Feds defense was able to stop the conversion attempt and hold onto the lead.  Both teams would get another chance to up the score, and Feds linebacker Paul Harting would cinch the win for the Feds as he picked off Chips QB Bryan Tilton on their final attempt.  Hudson would kneel down to secure the victory and move his team back into 1st place, while destroying the Blue Chips chance of being undefeated this season.

The Thundercats and The Violators were week 8's game 3, and the Violators showed up short handed.  But in the end, The Violator's explosive speed was enough to overcome the absence of half their team as they took the Thundercats down with an 18-7 victory.  Jairo Obregon filled in for the missing Violator QB, and threw for 192 yards and 2 TDS.  Obregon hit receivers Marcos Martinez and Jamie Cosio for scores.  Obregon rushed for 80 yards in the game, and handed off to runningback Alex Martinez 6 times for 40 yards.  Defensively Tilor Smith continued to rack up INTS and hold onto his #1 in picks this season spot.  Smith had 2 INTS in the game.  The Violators scored a 3rd touchdown in the game as Alex Martinez ran a kick return all the way in for a score.  The Thundercats were able to score 1 TD in the game as QB Jeremy Thompson found receiver Blake Stephens open for the score.

X Factor and The Guerillaz ended the day in a close one that came down to the end.  The Guerillaz held the lead for the beginning of the game, but in the end X Factor prevailed with a 20-12 final.  The Guerillaz started off the game scoring twice before X Factor would find the scoreboard.  Quarterback Mark Lobsinger found receiver Kris Breeden  for the teams first score, and upped the lead to 12 as he found tight end T.J. Plummer for the second.  But X Factor made their way onto the board as QB Sergio Godoy went 43 yards in the air to receiver Anthony Lonnegran.  Godoy then turned over the QB reins to Sean McClean, and McClean found runningback Paul Turstage in the air for a 30 yard score.  X Factor completed a 1 point conversion and took a 13-12 lead.  X Factor's defense led by Manuel Jacquez, Kenny Butler, and Cornelious Johnson didn't allow the Guerillaz to score again.  Butler had 2 tackles and 2 sacks, while Jacquez had 7 tackles.  Cornelious Johnson had 3 tackles and stopped the Guerillaz final hope with an INT.  X Factor took a 20-12 lead after QB McClean rushed into the endzone for a score and followed it up with another successful conversion pass.  The Guerillaz tried to answer and got close, but Johnson stopped their hopes and returned the ball to his team.  X Factor to the heartache of the Guerillaz ran down the clock and took the win.

Week 10 News

Before we start the week's highlights, we have some news.  As everyone most likely noticed in week 10, The Fighting Cocks forfeited the rest of their season.  Because of the lost team, Week 11's games will be played at the same time as the rest of the schedule.  Week 11 was originally scheduled to begin early, however due to the forfeit we will be starting games at the normal 9:30 a.m. time.  Below is the final week's schedule.  Remember there are no games on Thanksgiving weekend, week 11's games are December 1st.
9:30 11:00 12:30 2:00 3:30 optional *
Blue Chips Vs. Violators Feds Vs. X Factor Plague Vs. Doz Boyz Guerillaz Vs. Thundercats Guerillaz Vs. Scabs

* The Guerillaz will have the option to take a 7-0 victory for their second game, or if they wish, a scab game as they were scheduled to play the Fighting Cocks.

With the playoffs approaching and emotions intensifying, I want to take a minute to address some referee controversy.  First and foremost I need to remind the teams that the league employs the referees, teams do not have the option of choosing who they will and wont allow to ref their game.  Ref fees are $45.00 per team/per game for the 3 refs that the league employs.  If you wish not to play because you do not like the ref crew or a member of it, that is your only option, don't play.  Your game will be a forfeit, and the other team will win.  Please remember that teams in the CCFFL that forfeit a game are dropped from the schedule and not welcome to come back.  Referees do not cost teams games, they do however make mistakes and are human.  They can't see everything!!!  Regardless, love them or hate them, they are the referee crew that was hired for the Fall 2007 season.

Moving on, I want to address the ejections this season and remind everyone that ejections that lead to suspensions do carry over to the playoffs and championship games.  Please make sure you familiarize yourselves with the rules as I would hate for anybody to lose players for these upcoming important games because of ejections.  EJECTIONS CAN ALWAYS BE AVOIDED SIMPLY BY FOLLOWING THE RULES!!!

Week 10 Highlights

The Blue Chips showed up short handed to take on Doz Boyz, but they were able to pick up some help and take home a 24-19 victory.  The Blue Chips opened up the game with an 8 point lead scoring on their first drive with only 7 men on the field.  Bryan Tilton threw a touchdown pass to Logan Lord for the score.  Receivers' Adam Pruitt and Bryan Buckner scored the other 2 Blue Chips touchdowns.  Logan Lord led the Blue Chips defense and currently leads the league in defensive points.  Lord had 6 tackles and a sack in the game.  Doz Boyz stayed in the game throughout with B.J. Williams scoring a receiving touchdown, and Carlos Mendoza scoring a touchdown after a pick.  But the Blue Chips defense kept major pressure on Doz Boyz QB Eric Brown all day.  The team sacked Brown 8 times between them.  Ryan Marsh had 3 sacks, Aaron McBride and Bryan Ogg both had 2 sacks, and Logan Lord's sack all helped lead to the Blue Chip victory.

The Feds took on the Plague in game 2, and the Feds posted their 3rd shut out this season beating the Plague 37-0.  Highlights in the game included 4 passing touchdowns from Feds QB Shawn Hudson to 4 different receivers.  Emil Lovec led the Feds receivers in the game with 142 total yards and a TD.  The other 3 touchdowns thrown were to receiver Eddie Wilson, runningback Jason Plaut, and tight end Mike Miller.  Jason Plaut scored a defensive touchdown in the game as well when he returned a fumble to the zone for 6 more.  The Feds held on to their number 1 seeding with the win.

X Factor and The Violators played game 3 in perhaps the most exciting match of the day.  X Factor quarterback Lee Robertson put the first points on the board when he hit receiver Nick Lonnegran for 6 points.  X Factor failed their conversion attempt and the Violators quickly answered and took the lead as runningback Alex Martinez rushed in a touchdown and followed it up with a 2 point conversion.  X Factor scored again, but again failed to convert.  The Violators quickly took back the lead when QB Steve Handleton hit Jairo Obregon for the score.  The Violators held on tight to their 2 point lead as their defense led by Marcos Martinez and Alfredo Arechiga held X Factor to no more scores.  Martinez had 3 tackles and 2 deflections while Arechiga had 3 tackles and 2 sacks.  X Factor cornerback Nick Lonnegran caused 2 turnovers in the game with 2 interceptions, but it wasn't enough.  The Violators bumped up their record with the 14-12 win over X Factor.

The Thundercats were forced to play a scab team to close out the day as the Fighting Cocks forfeited the rest of their season.  The Thundercats posted their 3rd win finishing the game with a 20-19 victory.  Thundercats receiver B.J. Wilkerson had a great game scoring his teams only touchdown in the air on a 36 yard pass from quarterback Jeremy Davidson.  Davidson rushed in 2 more touchdowns for his team, and defensively gave possession back to his team after catching an interception.  Gary Sawyer also helped the Thundercats secure their victory  as he stopped a conversion attempt with a pick, and had 3 tackles and a deflection in the game.  The victory moved the Thundercats up to 3 wins.
