Opening Day Highlights

The Carson City Flag Football League's 12th Season kicked off Saturday with 3 action packed games, many familiar faces, and some new additions to the league too.  The weather was nice, although it was a little bit on the hot side, but the sunshine was welcome as the returning players know we expect some chilly temperatures as the Fall season progresses.

Opening the day was a rematch between Scores and the Rebels, Spring 2004's Championship game teams.  The Rebels came with a vengeance as Scores beat them out of a Championship title last Spring.  One noticeable difference was a new QB for the Rebels.  #17 Ryan Bauman settled into the position well putting the first 6 points of the game on the board with a 64 yard touchdown bomb to receiver Dustin McWilliams.  The first half of the game was all Rebels and the 3-time CCFFL champions, Scores, looked rusty.  The Rebels put two more TDS on the board in the first half allowing Scores none.  QB Bauman scored the team's second touchdown as well, but this time it was defensively,  playing Safety he picked off Scores QB Jeff Day and ran 61 yards to his team's goal for the score.  Rebel running back Javier Vega scored the team's third touchdown with an 83 yard run into the end zone.  Vega ran literally untouched and had a huge day going 4 for 140 yards.   Rebels corner Chris Barredo and Safety Dustin McWilliams were instrumental in shutting the Scores offense down.  Barredo had 8 tackles, 1 deflection and an INT in the game while McWilliams posted 6 tackles and an INT.   Scores was unable to get anything going until the second half of the game.  Finally Scores QB Jeff Day with the help of Tight End Eric Brown found the end zone.  Although the Rebels owned the first half of the game, the Champs stole the second.  But it was too little too late as QB Day found receiver Jacob Nordman for a 35 yard score but was unable to find the end zone again after that.  The Rebels got their revenge and went home with a 20-14 victory.

Gorilla Unit and The Regulators took the field for game two.  The Regulators had many new faces as well as some returning CCFFL faces we haven't seen in awhile.  But the game belonged to Gorilla Unit.  Right from the get go The Regulators had problems.  The first points on the board went to G-Unit as a botched Regulator snap led to a sack in the end zone for a safety.  Having a 2 point lead and the ball, Gorilla Unit capitalized on the Reg's misfortune and added 8 more points to their score with a 78 yard touchdown from QB Troy Fontana to Offensive Player of the Week, Bryan Buckner.  Buckner and Fontana both had their way with the boys in purple all day posting huge numbers and being seemingly unstoppable.  Fontana completed all but three passes in the game going 9 of 12 for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Buckner caught 4 passes for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Defensively the Gorilla Unit was equally successful.  As Buckner earned offensive honors, cornerback Jim Willoughby took home Defensive Player of the Week as he wreaked havoc on The Regulators.  Willoughby posted 3 tackles, 4 deflections, and 2 Ints of which 1 was for a touchdown.  Although G-Unit had the most highlights, The Regulators had some of their own.  Tight End Claude Walker put up both of the teams two scores catching a TD pass from both Regulator Quarterbacks that played in the game.  Walker caught a 47 yard TD from new QB Jeremiah Bell early in the game, followed by a 30 yard TD from QB Lee Robertson at the end of the game.  As always The Regulators launched a brutal on the ground attack with running back Mikel Williams.  Williams ran 10 times for 84 yards, but the Gorilla Unit was successful keeping him out of the end zone.  Gorilla Unit sent The Regulators home to regroup and ponder their 36-14 loss.

Wrapping up opening day were The Feds and The Bombers..  The first half of the game went to the Feds as they went into the half-time break with  a 7-0 lead.  Feds Quarterback Shawn Hudson had a happy reunion with his former receiver Nate Nelson, as Nelson now playing Tight End for the Feds caught a 38 yard touchdown pass for the game's first score.  Nelson was looking good back in blue as he scored the second touchdown in the game as well, this time defensively, playing linebacker he returned a pick 38 yards for the score.  Bombers defensive ends, Brendon O'Neal and Quincy French kept the pressure on Hudson all day, each posting 3 sacks.  But  the Feds' offense was able to overcome the pressure and get the job  done.  Running back Jason Plaut scored the Feds third touchdown with a 16 yard run.  The Feds were leading the Bombers 19-0 when the Bombers finally made their mark on the scoreboard.  Quarterback Rowan Emmert ran 8 yards for his teams first score.  The Bombers defense stopped The Feds on downs back in Bomber territory and capitalized on the change of possession scoring again.  This time, Emmert found new receiver Leondre Lewis on a 22 yard TD pass.  Lewis had a great rookie game, catching 6 passes for 81 yards and the score.  Feds linebacker Paul Harting and defensive end Rory Sullivan were brutal defensively to the Bombers.  Harting snagged 8 flags while Sullivan had 2 tackles, 1 sack, 2 deflections and a fumble recovery.  Bombers Nick Medina and B.J. Williams both played tough defensively, Medina had 2 tackles, 2 deflections and a pick and Williams had 6 tackles, despite their efforts, The Feds came out on top with a 19-12 victory.

Week 3 Highlights

The Fall league teams were blessed with another sunshine filled day for week 3 of the season.  The Gorilla Unit opened the day with the Bombers and hoped to bounce back from a week 2 loss, while the Bombers hoped to continue what they started in Week 2 and see a second victory.  But if they were going to see a win, they would have to repeat the trend set in week 2 and come from behind again, because G-Unit led the game throughout.  Gorilla captain's Troy Fontana and Karl Febel put the first 6 on the board and made it look easy with a 65 yard bomb from Fontana to Febal.  Bombers defensive end Quincy French got in Fontana's face 3 times posting 3 sacks and kept the pressure on forcing the QB to be picked off twice, once by LB Nick Medina and once by Corner, Leondre Louis, but Fontana's two turnovers were out shadowed by Bomber QB Rowan Emmert's three.  Gorilla Unit defenders Paul Jolly, Eric Statoes, and Bryan Buckner all picked off Emmert and Buckner ran his in for G-Unit's second score.  Gorilla Unit held a comfortable 12 point lead and after the break they upped the score 7 more when Fontana rushed in a TD followed by a conversion pass to Jim Willoughby.  The Bombers made their mark on the scoreboard late in the third when Emmert found Nick Medina open for a 58 yard score, but a failed 3 point conversion only brought them 6 closer to the Gorilla's 19, and the unit wasn't done.  Fontana hit receiver Bryan Buckner on another bomb into the zone.  The Gorilla Unit threw all the bombs today and sent the Bombers home with a 25-6 loss.

Scores and the Feds played the middle game this week in an exciting match to the end.  It looked as if The Feds had made a huge mistake on their opening drive when the team elected to go for it on fourth and double from Scores 8 yard line, and a mistake it was as Scores quarterback Jeff Day easily ran it in for the first 6 of the game capitalizing on the Feds unsuccessful attempt for a first.  The Feds quickly bounced back scoring 7 on the next possession with Feds QB Shawn Hudson throwing a 14 yard TD pass to tight end Jack Montgomery and following it up with a conversion point to Gary Noah.  It was a defensive match for the remainder of the half as both teams went into the break scoring only once.  Score's corner Carl McAllister led his team in tackles grabbing 7, while Fed Linebacker Paul Harting led his team with 5.  But Scores defensive pass rush tortured the Feds sacking Hudson 10 times and holding Feds running back Jason Plaut to only 9 yards.  Scores DE Sal Salsory posted 4 sacks while Jason Silverhardt nabbed 3.  The Feds held on to their 1 point lead through the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to get the job done as Scores receiver Jerome Moore ran in his team's second score.  Scores now held a 5 point lead and the Feds had another shot to take the lead back, for a moment it looked as if they might when Jason Plaut caught a pass and carried it in for 6 but the TD was called back for flag guarding.  Scores made sure that didn't happen again and Jeff Day and his Championship crew knelt their way down to another victory.  The final score was 12-7.

Ending the week were the Regulators and the Rebels, or 2 and 0 versus 0 and 2.  The big question was would the streaks continue?  For a moment it looked like the Regulators might give the Rebels a run for their money, but they didn't  as the Rebels matched everything the Regulators did and then some.  Unlike the defensive match that preceded them, this game was all offense.  The first half of the game was an offensive teeter totter as Rebel QB Ryan Bauman put the first 6 on the board connecting with receiver Kiko Vega, followed by the Regulator's answer of 6 of their own put up by quarterback, Reggie Charles on a run up the middle.  The pattern continued on the ensuing drive, this time Bauman took it in himself on the ground running 41 yards for the Rebel score.  But the Regulators answered again, this time Matt Daggett took a pass from Charles 74 yards for the TD.  With the score tied at 12 and the half coming up, the Rebels took the half time lead when Bauman again ran it in for 6, this time Bauman ran 42 yards and followed it up with a 3 point conversion pass to Dustin McWilliams.  The Regulators brought themselves closer following the break when Claude Walker scored a 47 yard touchdown.  Down now only 21-18 it looked as though it was anyone's ballgame.  But the Rebels owned the fourth quarter as Bauman earned offensive player of the week scoring 2 more passing TDS, one 26 yarder to Kiko Vega and a 47 yard strike to Dustin McWilliams.  The Rebels defense shut down the Regulators in the fourth with Paul Medina recovering a fumble and Kiko Vega picking off the Reg's QB.  Rebel Randy Loff also forced an INT in the game and The Rebels continued their winning streak and sent the Regulators home with another loss to ponder, 34-18 was the final score.

Week 4 Highlights

The Rebels took on the Gorilla Unit in week 4's opener.  The Rebels hoped to continue their winning streak, but the Gorilla Unit was looking to steal first away from the undefeated Rebs.  The Rebels scored the first and only first half touchdown when Quarterback, Ryan Bauman, hit Randy Loff for a 42 yard score.  Gorilla Unit held them at 6 as they failed their conversion attempt.  The Rebel defense took advantage of missing Gorilla Unit QB Troy Fontana, and kept major pressure on fill in Jim Willoughby all day.  Defensive End Jessie Horton was in Willoughby's face over and over and he posted 3 sacks in the game, while Joe Fontez came in from the other side and nabbed 2.  Ryan Bauman caused the Gorilla's the most grief, getting 4 deflections and a pick.  The Rebels strong defensive unit held G-Unit at zero for the first half, but the Gorilla's defense was equally strong in the half.  Gorilla Unit Safety, Paul Jolly, picked off Bauman and grabbed a tackle, while corners Nick Desideri and Greg Bonnett got three tackles each.  Jolly was ejected in the half due to a controversial "tackle" call.  The Rebels increased their 6 point lead to 12 early in the third when Bauman hit Javier Vega for a score.  But shortly after, Gorilla Unit QB Willoughby hit receiver Bryan Buckner on a 60 yard bomb and brought the team back into the game.  After a successful conversion the unit was down by only 5 points.  With 1 touchdown separating the two teams, The Gorilla Unit had a shot at gold taking over possession late in the fourth, but their shot quickly fizzled as a fumbled kick return gave the ball back to the Rebels and capitalize they did.  Javier Vega recovered the fumbled ball and ran it into the Rebel end zone upping his team's lead and leaving G-Unit little time to retaliate and more space to make up.  G-Units final attempt to score was shut down by the Rebels and the undefeated team remained so with an 18-7 victory.

The Feds and The Regulators took the field for game 2 of week 4.  Both teams were starving for a win and short personnel.  The Feds got off to a quick start as quarterback Shawn Hudson found Paul Harting open and ready to go 42 yards for a score.  The feds were successful with their conversion attempt and held an 8 point lead.  The Regulator defense played tuff with Mac MacQuarrie and Claude Walker leading them.  Walker posted 6 tackles, MacQuarrie caused even more damage with 4 tackles, a deflection, and a sack.  They held the Feds to only those 8 in the first, but the second half was a different story.  Hudson found receiver Emil Lovec for his team's second score, followed by another successful 2 pointer.  The Feds now held a comfortable 16 point lead and their defense made it impossible for the Regulators to answer.  Fed linebacker Jack Montgomery earned defensive player of the week as he wreaked havoc all over the field.  Jack grabbed 6 tackles, got 1 deflection , and picked off two balls.  Rory Sullivan and Nick Johnson also posed a problem for the Regulators posting 4 tackles and 2 sacks each.  Fed's running back Jason Plaut had a great game rushing for 108 yards and scoring the team's final touchdown.  Again the Feds converted 2 and now held tight to a 24 point lead.  Late in the fourth, the Regulator offense finally found their way into the zone as they ended the game with a score from  Lee Robertson to Jeremiah Bell .  The conversion failed but they avoided the shut out.  The Feds went home 2 and 2 with this 24-6 win over the Regulators.

Scores and the Bombers ended the day, and Scores scored big.  44 to be exact.  Scores quarterback Jeff Day earned offensive player of the week as he could not be kept out of the end zone.  Day completed 50% of his passes and threw for 5 touchdowns, he took a 6th touchdown in on the ground as well.  The Bombers just couldn't get anything rolling until late in the game and it was too little too late at that point.  Day spread the wealth amongst his receivers, throwing one TD to Jacob Nordman, one to Cornelius Johnson, and one to Jerome Moore, he threw two touchdowns to tight end Eric Brown as well.  Bomber LB Nick Medina  had a tackle and 3 deflections in the game, but his efforts did not prevail as Day put up 6 each time he possessed the ball.  The Scores defense was led by Cornelius Johnson with a tackle and 2 INTS.  Though the Bomber defense allowed Scores 44, the offense still scored a few of their own.  Emmert hit receiver B.J. Williams with a perfect pass for a 51 yard touchdown for the teams first 6.  Brendon O'Neal and Carlos Mendoza also caught TDs late in the game followed by successful 3 point conversions.  In the end it didn't look as bad for the Bombers as it had looked like it might, they lost by only 3 scores, 44-24.

Week 5 Highlights

Week 5's close marked off the halfway point of the season, the Rebels remain undefeated, while the Regulators have yet to pull off a win.  Now that every team has met each other once, the second half of the season should heat up as they gear up to meet again.

This week's games opened up with Scores Vs. The Regulators.  The only thing amusing about this game was Joe Eckman's sideline "megaphone" commentary.  With Eckman grounded on the sideline from a suspension, Scores pounced on the boys in purple.  Quarterback Jeff Day earned offensive player of the week for the second time in a row and third time this season literally scoring each time his offense took possession.  Day completed an incredible 10 of 12 passes for 313 yards and 4 touchdowns, on the ground he racked up 100 more yards and two more touchdowns.  Jacob Nordman, Carl McAllister, and Deacon Spurlock were the recipients of Day's 4 touchdown passes.  Offensively the Regulators could not escape the tough Scores defensive unit.  Seth Hernandez and Sal Salsory each sacked the Regulator QBs 4 times, while Jacob Nordman and Eric Brown each caught interceptions.  Regulator QB Lee Robertson managed to avoid an embarrassing shut out when he found Claude Walker open for a 76 yard touchdown pass.  Scores beat The Regulators 51-6.

The Feds and Gorilla Unit met in game 2, and with both teams tied at 2 and 2 it promised to be an exciting match up.  The Feds scored the first touchdown when QB Shawn Hudson completed a 16 yard touchdown pass to running back Marvin Morgan.  Gorilla Unit capitalized shortly after when they received 2 points for a safety and followed it with 6 more from a touchdown run up the middle from QB Troy Fontana.  Gorilla Unit held a 1 point lead until Hudson found receiver Gary Noah for a 27 yard score.  The Feds led 13-8 at halftime.  After the break, it was a defensive battle with Gorilla Unit defensive ends Jason Phillips and Greg Bonnett putting major pressure on the Feds QB.  Phillips got 3 sacks and 5 tackles while Bonnett got 1 tackle and 5 sacks.  Gorilla Unit took the lead back late in the third quarter when Fontana ran again for 6 more points.  The Feds defense was led by Nick Johnson who had 5 tackles and a deflection in the game, but Linebackers Paul Harting and Nate Nelson perhaps caused the most damage, each of them picked off Fontana in the game and gave the Feds possession when they needed it.  Down by 1 point in the fourth and on fourth down with little time left, Hudson found tight end Nate Nelson for a 29 yard touchdown.  The Feds took the win with a 21-14 final score.

The un-beaten Rebels met the Bombers to cap off the first half of the season.  Rebel quarterback Ryan Bauman didn't get the job done in the air this week, rather he did it on the ground.  Bauman scored the first and second touchdowns in the game rushing into the end zone untouched by Bombers.  At half time, the Rebels led 12-0, but the Bombers gave the undefeated boys a run for their money in the second half.  Quarterback Rowan Emmert completed a touchdown pass to receiver Leondre Louis, and put the Bombers in the game.  During the second half of the game the Bomber defense shut down the Rebels.  Defensive end Quincy French had 3 tackles, 2 sacks and a pick, and Leondre Louis had 5 tackles and 2 deflections.  But their second half efforts were not enough to de-crown the Rebels.  The Rebels defense showed why the team has yet to be beat as they held the Bombers at only 6 in the game.  Rebel Kiko Vega earned defensive player of the week with 5 tackles, 2 sacks, and a deflection while Ryan Bauman and Paul Medina each picked off the Bomber QB once.  The Rebels remain unbeaten with a 12-6 win over the Bombers.

eighty-ninth edition, October 16, 2004

Coming in 0 and 5, it looked like The Regulators might find their game today as they faced the Gorilla Unit to open up week 6.  The team that desperately needed a win stayed head to head with Gorilla Unit in the first half of the ball game; but even the return of "Big Daddy", Joe Eckman, didn't help.  Gorilla Unit soared ahead in the second half and The Regulators "mounted up" for yet another sad ride home.  The Regulators scored first in the air when QB Lee Robertson through a touchdown pass to receiver Matt Daggett.  Gorilla Unit's Quarterback, Troy Fontana answered back with a quick pass to receiver Bryan Buckner.  Fontana upped the ante by one with a successful conversion point.  The Regulators focused on the ground for the rest of the game handing the ball to Running back Mikel Williams 10 times.  Williams ran for 124 yards in the game and scored his teams second and last touchdown.  Gorilla Unit's defense took charge after Williams touchdown, racking up 18 tackles and causing 4 turnovers.  Cornerback Bryan Buckner caught 2 interceptions in the game, including one returned for G-Unit's second touchdown.  Jim Willoughby caught another Regulator INT and Greg Bonnet recovered a fumble.  The turnovers were detrimental for the Regs, but Gorilla Unit capitalized on all of them.  QB Troy Fontana threw for 243 yards in the game and 4 touchdowns including a 57 yarder to Buckner, a 44 yard TD to Jim Willoughby, and an 18 yard strike to Chris Butler.  Gorilla Unit took their record to .500 with this 39-12 win.

The Feds and the Bombers met for game 2 of week 6 and like The Regulators, the Bombers were in desperate need of a win.  The Feds took first possession but massive pressure by The Bombers left them empty handed as they turned the ball over to the Bombers in dangerous territory.  Steve Serafini, Quincy French, and Brendon O'Neal sacked Fed's QB Shawn Hudson 14 times in the game.  The Bombers put the first 8 points on the board when Quarterback Rowan Emmert through a 5 yard TD to Brendon O'Neal.  The Feds though rusty in the first quarter, came alive for the second.  Hudson scored twice before the half with touchdown passes to receiver Emil Lovec and tight end Nate Nelson.  The Bombers stopped both Fed's conversion attempts and the score was a close 12-8 at the half.  It was a defensive battle for much of the third quarter, Feds had in possession defensive player of the week, Jack Montgomery who racked up 7 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 deflection, and a pick.  In addition to the pressure that the Bomber DE's had on Hudson, Cornerback B.J. Williams was all over the back field causing two turnovers, one by INT and 1 a fumble recovery, he also grabbed a tackle and a sack.  The Bombers took the lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter when Rowan Emmert found Nick Medina for a 20 yard score, this time the conversion was unsuccessful and the Bombers led 14-12.  The Bombers were able to hold on to their lead for most of the final quarter, but the Feds got the ball at the two minute mark and it was plenty of time for Hudson to find receiver Gary Noah for a touchdown followed by a 2 point conversion.  Noah's 8 points gave the Feds a 20-14 lead and the Feds defense was able to stop The Bombers final effort to score.  The Bombers remain 1 and 5 after their disappointing 20-14 loss to the Feds.

Perhaps the most exciting game of the day was between the #1 and #2 ranked Rebels and Scores.  Unfortunately the excitement didn't come from football, rather it was boxing that caused this game's fireworks.  It was a close game throughout, with the Rebels putting 6 points up early on when Javier Vega caught a pass from Ryan Bauman and went 46 yards for the score.  But with two powerful defenses on the field, that was the only 6 the scoreboard would see for most of the remaining game.  Scores defense had Jeff Day at Safety and Day helped make sure The Rebels didn't see the goal again, he had 2 tackles, 1 deflection and an INT while teammates Eric Brown and Cornelious Johnson also helped, each having 3 tackles and a deflection.  The Rebels defense was equally successful keeping Scores out of the end zone with Kiko Vega, Paul Medina, and Chris Barredo all over the field.  Medina and Vega both had 6 tackles and Barredo had 5.  Vega also had 2 deflections.  In addition to the tackle leaders, Ryan Bauman and Dustin McWilliams both caused turnovers, each of them picked off Day once.  But one thing the Rebels couldn't stop was league leading Scores receiver Jacob Nordman from catching 7 passes for 160 yards in the game.  Nordman seemed to break through The Rebel defense with ease showing why he leads the league in that category.  Nordman set up Scores most important drive driving 47 yards on his team's final possession and setting up a 7 yard touchdown from QB Day to tight end Eric Brown.  With the score now tied at 6, Day did what he knew he had to do and scored the ever important conversion point which would lead to a Scores victory.  Down by 1 point and with only 31 seconds to go, The Rebels took possession at the 50 yard line, but what may have been, we will never know, because instead of football, fighting is what ended this game.  The adrenalin festered two team brawls and the game was called due to uncontrollable tempers.  Kiko Vega, Seth Hernandez, Jesse Horton, Jerome Moore, Randy Loff, and Victor McCombs made the headlines for this game as all of them will sit out next week for being pegged as the trouble makers.  In fairness to them, this writer is sure their were more, but they were the ones who got caught.  So with that being said, Scores was the benefactor as they led 7-6 when the game was called and therefore the victory went to them.  The win was a bittersweet ending for Scores to help ease the pain of losing 3 players next week.  As for the Rebels, a tough one to swallow indeed as they not only lost undefeated status, but 3 players next week as well.

Hopefully this weeks "fighting" and the loss of several players next week is an eye opener as to why captains should try and keep control of their players.  If not, please refresh yourselves by reading the notices below.  Once again I remind all of you, this league has a NO TOLERANCE for fighting policy.  IT'S FLAG FOOTBALL, lets just come out to play, it's supposed to be fun and most of all SAFE.  And though I won't be popular for saying this I must say it again, IT'S JUST A GAME!!!  Thank you...

Week 7 Highlights

It was a tough lesson learned (hopefully) for Scores and the Rebels, the loss of 3 players each may well have added to the loss of a game for the two leading teams.  Gorilla Unit met Scores first to open the week, and a fantastic game by G-Unit's quarterback/safety Troy Fontana helped send Scores home the losers.  Fontana capitalized early on Scores minimized roster, scoring the first two touchdowns in the game with receiver Chris Butler.  Both conversion attempts were a success and Gorilla Unit had a 14-0 lead.  But with QB Jeff Day  on the other side; the G-Unit lead was lessened shortly before the half time break when Day hit tight end Eric Brown for a score.  Not to take away from the Gorilla Unit's performance, they too were playing with a short roster and Fontana earned Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance grabbing 4 tackles and picking off Day 3 times for 50 return yards.  During the second half of the game, Scores edged closer to the G-Unit when Jeff Day threw a touchdown pass to receiver David Gutierrez, but the conversion attempt was stopped and the team was still down by a point.  Fontana quickly answered and upped his team's lead to 8 when he found Bryan Buckner open for the score, followed by a two point conversion to Karl Febel.  Perhaps the biggest demise for Scores were the rare 5 Interceptions thrown by Jeff Day.  In addition to the 3 picks caught by Fontana, Jim Willoughby and Sam Reynolds each picked Day off once.  Gorilla Unit beat Scores 21-13.

The Feds met The Rebels for game 2 of week 7.  Like Scores, the Rebels had three players gone from last week's antics and The Feds were able to capitalize on their fate.  In the first half of the game, Feds tight end/linebacker, Nate Nelson was the star, scoring two touchdowns, the first on a 19 yard pass from QB Shawn Hudson, and the second one came when he rushed 24 yards into the zone after picking off Rebel QB Ryan Bauman.  The Rebel defense kept the Feds from converting, but at half time the Feds held a comfortable 12-0 lead.  Nelson had a great game and toyed with the Rebels all day getting 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 deflection and the INT.  Cornerback Gary Noah also had a great day with 6 tackles and a deflection.  Despite the difficulties the Feds defense posed for the Rebels, QB Bauman was able to find receiver Dustin McWilliams 10 times for 145 yards, and Bauman put his team on the board with a 51 yard TD thrown to Matt Bartak.  McWilliams and CB Chris Barredo led the Rebel defense with McWilliams grabbing 5 tackles and stopping a conversion, and Barredo nabbing 3 tackles and picking off Hudson once.  With Rebel DE Jessie Horton gone, very little pressure was put on Hudson, allowing him to find his multiple receivers with ease.  Hudson found offensive player of the week Paul Harting 4 times for 92 yards and 2 second half TDS which upped the Fed's lead to 24-6.  Fed receiver Gary Noah also racked up the yards, catching 8 passes for 131 yards.  Bauman made the final score more respectable when he rushed 39 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.  The Feds beat the Rebels, and created a 3 way tie for first with this 24-12 win.

The Bombers and The Regulators closed the day in an exciting match to the end.  Both teams had not seen a win in awhile, but it was a sure bet one would get one today.  Putting the first score on the board was the Bombers, QB Rowan Emmert hit receiver Carlos Mendoza for six.  The Regulators made a quick comeback and it looked like they might see their first win this season as QB Reggie Bell found both his tight ends, Robert Budd & Claude Walker for touchdowns bringing the Regulators into the half time break with a 12-6 lead.  The Bombers took the game back during the second half as their defense barely let The Regulators touch the ball.  Bombers Nick Medina, Carlos Mendoza, and Ray Quero all picked off Regulator quarterback Reggie Charles once.  Brendon O'Neal put major pressure on Charles with 3 sacks and a deflection.  Offensively the Bombers quickly took back the lead scoring a touchdowns when Emmert found Mendoza again for a 23 yard score, a successful conversion made it 13-12 Bombers.  Mendoza had a huge day catching 6 passes for 165 yards and 2 TDS.  But the Regulators would answer quickly with a 50+ yard score from Charles to Scott Thompson.  Thompson's touchdown was followed by a 1 point conversion and the Regulators now led 19-13.  But Emmert would match that score with 7 of his own throwing a  27 yard TD to Nick Medina and following up with the game winning conversion point to B.J. Williams.  Emmert had a great day throwing for 289 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The Regulators took possession again and attempted to take the game back, but the Bomber defense would not allow it.  The Bombers kept their playoff hopes alive with this 20-19 win.

Week 10 Highlights

Well once again we come to another CCFFL season close.  This week's game matched up The Rebels and Bombers, Scores and the Regulators, and The Feds and Gorilla Unit.  With nothing but seeding at stake, and the Feds controlling everyone's fate, as expected their was nothing too exciting to write about in the early games.  The Gorilla Unit and Feds closed the day and the season with an exciting game close to the end, hopefully a preview of next weeks playoff rematch between the two teams.  The 22-20 Feds victory gave the Feds a first place season title.  The Bombers and The Regulators were eliminated from the playoffs before the games even started but the Bombers showed up to play and finish out a disappointing season.  The Rebels dominated the game and finished with an 8 and 2 record following their 32-6 win over the Bombers.  Thanks to the Bombers for showing up despite being short handed and out of the post season games.  Which brings us to the Regulators who once again left Scores without a game to play in week 10 as all but one player (Matt Daggett) decided to stay home.  Thank you to Matt for showing up and taking the field with the scabs who tried unsuccessfully to give Scores a loss.  Eric Brown and Jacob Nordman made their quarterback debuts due to Jeff Day taking advantage of the Regulator no shows to nurse his hamstring injury.  Brown and Nordman both completed 2 of 7 passes in the game and Scores beat the scabs 33-6.  The playoffs are set for next Saturday as The second seed Rebels will play the third seeded Scores at 10 a.m. followed by an 11:30 First Place Feds vs. 4th seed Gorilla Unit game.

As always thank you to all of the players for making our 12th season a success, and congratulations to this season's all CCFFL All-Star team which can be viewed on the all-star page.  Unfortunately their is no all-star game this season, but we will be having our Spring 2005 free pass drawings on the field at the coin toss of both play-off games.  All-star players will have the chance to win free passes for next season.

Following is a list of offenses which can get a player ejected from a game.  Ejections can be done by any referee or any league official, and are done at their discretion.

Pushing out of Bounds

Tackling

Any form of fighting

Excessive Cussing after a warning

Taunting another player excessively to instigate a fight

Retaliation not in self-defense

Charging another player

&

Intentional Stripping

Once a player is ejected from a game, the league officials will decide based on the circumstances if any future suspensions will be issued.  Players can be suspended for 1 up to indefinite games following any ejection.  Suspensions are done on a case by case basis and previous circumstances will not be compared to determine what is appropriate.  The league will use several guidelines and issues to determine the length of any suspension.  Referee recommendations will be a strong determining factor when making these decisions.  Thank you.
